New York Yankees lose to Toronto Blue Jays 5-7 – MLB Spring Training News
New York Yankees faced yet another defeat as they lost to Toronto Blue Jays 5-7 at the Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin, Florida on Wednesday, March 14 in a Grapefruit League game of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Freddy Garcia, who is competing for a spot on Yankees pitching rotation, didn’t have his best of times on the mound. The outing proved extremely frustrating for the starter after he got hit on a thumb on his throwing hand off Toronto’s hitter Edwin Encarnacion.
Yankees’ catcher Francisco Cervelli, who has made a comeback from an injury, knew immediately that something was wrong with Garcia after he was hit. According to sources, Garcia was sent to the dugout where he was given medical treatment. The starter will
be hoping to recover from his thumb injury as early as possible to bounce back strongly in the upcoming spring season games.
Encarnacion also blasted two crucial home runs including one against Garcia in the fourth inning. He later added a three run shot to centre field to help the Jays take complete control over the contest. The striker will be hoping to maintain his good form
on his next spring appearance.
"I thought he threw the ball pretty well. He commands all his off-speeds, he commands his fastball, he changes speeds and that's exactly what he did today. His split was effective," Girardi said. "He just got his hand in the way. That's the one thing I didn't
like."
Joe Girardi and his men have made a poor start to their Spring Training campaign. Having lost eight of their 13 games, it seems the Yankees are struggling to execute their strategies on the field. The Yankees are considered as one of the strongest teams
in American League.
Utilising their vast resources, the club made some key investments during the offseason. Mike Ilitch will also have high expectations from his team. The fans also want the Yankees to go the distance this season. It will be interesting to see if the Yankees
can put things on the right track in second half of Spring Training.
