New York Yankees lose to Toronto Blue Jays 7-10 in series finale – MLB Update
New York Yankees lost to Toronto Blue Jays 7-10 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Sunday, August 12 in the finale of their three match series.
Yankees’ Manager Joe Girardi will be extremely disappointed with the result of the series. After hammering the Blue Jays in first two games, the Yankees had an excellent chance to complete an emphatic series sweep at Rogers Centre but that did not turn out
to be the case.
Toronto regrouped and fought back brilliantly in the finale to get back on to the winning track. The offence, in particular, looked in hot form as it took complete advantage of Yankees unforced errors on the field.
Starting pitcher Phil Hughes had a terrible time on the mound as he gave up nine hits and seven runs in just four innings to take his tenth loss of the season. Hughes made too many mistakes and the Blue Jays made him pay the ultimate price.
"He made mistakes in the middle of the plate and they didn't miss them," manager Joe Girardi said.
"It's been a battle this road trip," Hughes said. "I need to hopefully hit the reset when we get back home, kind of clear my mind and get back to doing the things that I was doing earlier, just try and forget about these two."
"It's kind of just been all over the place and I haven't really been in control out there," he further added.
Blue Jays’ made an aggressive start to the contest. David Cooper, Jeff Mathis and Rajai Davis displayed some high quality hitting skills to put their team 7-0 ahead in the fourth inning. Davis also took an outstanding catch in the deep.
Yankees fought back bravely in the sixth with Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano hitting back-to-back home-runs but the Blue jays held on to their lead convincingly to avoid an embarrassing series sweep.
Yankees will now take on Texas Rangers in a home series and it will be interesting to see if they can get the better of AL West Division leaders.
