New York Yankees not considering Johnny Damon for next season – MLB News
According to multiple sources, the New York Yankees will not be signing star slugger free agent Johnny Damon for next Major League Baseball season in order to give some stability to their 40-man roster.
Earlier this was a huge topic among the local media that the Yankees’ management is planning to sign veteran slugger for 2012 season and has prepared a complete strategy to bring the MLB professional to the club. Damon, who is vastly experienced campaigner in the League, has also played for several top level teams including the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays and was looking optimistic to come into the Yankees roster again.
His potential arrival in the Yankees’ franchise created a big buzz but now it has been confirmed by several sources as he might not be coming in the New York based baseball franchise next season.
"We both are looking at other options now," Damon told the media yesterday, and called it "unfortunate." Later, the Yankees' general manager Brian Cashman also cleared the situation.
"He called and I told him the truth," Cashman said. "He’s not the No. 1 option if and when I turn to DH options."
Sources are also giving numerous reasons barring the Yankees to let go of this late signing. First the Yankees want a relatively young designated hitter in the franchise. Secondly the team is not in good financial condition. Already the Yankees’ management has spent plenty of money on their current players. Six to eight players were on salary arbitration while some new players have also cost them with big bucks.
Though somehow the Yankees will have arranged the money for Damon but the fact will not be changed as they wanted a young player to represent them for a long time. In the meanwhile, the Yankees are still looking in good spirit to enter into the new MLB season. They are not relying on their experienced players this time around instead want to explore the chances with the young Yankees who still possess talent and energy to play a larger role within the franchise.
