New York Yankees outclass Boston Red Sox 7-3 to take series – MLB Update
New York Yankees toppled Boston Red Sox 7-3 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, July 8 in third game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Yankees continued their hot winning streak on Sunday evening as they dominated their arch rivals in all departments of the game. Manager Joe Girardi will be very pleased to see the players sticking to their task as the Yankees secured their fifth straight
win against Boston this season.
Just a month ago, the Yankees were only a couple of games over the .500 win percentage mark. However, now they will be entering the All Star Break with the biggest lead in any Division. To Girardi, it will be a huge accomplishment and he could not resist
expressing his happiness.
"I'm proud of these guys because not only have we had injuries, we've had situations where things haven't gone our way," he said after New York's crushing win against the Boston Red Sox.
"We struggled with some pitching early on and we struggled with runners in scoring position but the one thing that this group has found a way to do is to win games," he further added.
After making a slow start to the season, Yankees have improved with each passing game. Over the last month, they have looked unbeatable at times and it will be a great upset if they fail to make it to the playoffs this year.
Mark Teixeira showed commendable hitting skills as he doubled to left and Derek Jeter scored the opening run for the Yankees. Nick Swisher, who had a memorable time on the plate on Saturday, continued his excellent hitting form with an RBI groundout to double
Yankees’ advantage to 2-0.
Alex Rodriguez tripled to deep-centre and Adam Jones connected for two run home-run in the seventh to give New York an impassable 7-2 lead. Starting pitcher Ivan Nova picked up his tenth win of the season after he gave up only two runs and six hits with
10 strike-outs. In the absence of C.C. Sabathia and Andy Pettitte, Nova is certainly impressing his skipper.
