New York Yankees outclassed by Texas Rangers 3-7 – MLB Update
New York Yankees were outclassed by Texas Rangers 3-7 at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on Wednesday, April 25 in the deciding finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Starting pitcher Phil Hughes is struggling to find his rhythm right from the start of the season and he allowed five hits and four runs in his six innings on Wednesday evening.
"We believe he can do it and I know he believes he can do, but right now sometimes the ball runs back a little bit, he leaves the curveball up a little bit. Cutter sometimes isn't getting where he wants it," manager Joe Girardi said of Hughes. "It is frustrating, but you have to keep working at it."
"Something has to change. I just have to keep working hard. That's all I can do. I feel good with the stuff I'm throwing," Hughes said.
Texas, once again, showed just why they are one of the favourites to win the World Series title this season. Although the Rangers reached the finals last season, they were unable to get the better of St. Louis Cardinals. However, with even stronger hitting and pitching lineups for Texas this season, fans’ expectations will be greater than ever before.
Not only are the Rangers one of the most talented units in the league but they also have the ability to raise their game to a higher level in pressure games. After losing the opening game to the Yankees, they fought back brilliantly in the second to level the series. A fine pitching performance in game 3 once again made batters’ job simpler and the Rangers won the contest in convincing fashion.
The Rangers are now 15-4 in their 19 games so far this season and it will be interesting to see if they can maintain their sensational form throughout the year to fittingly lift the title.
Yankees, on the other hand, looked short of answers in the final game, allowing easy scoring opportunities to their opponents in the third inning. With Michael Pineda also out for the entire season due to a shoulder injury, the Yankees will need a miracle to change the course of their destiny.
