New York Yankees overcome Cleveland Indians 4-3 – MLB News
New York Yankees had a great time on the field, as they secured their second straight win against the Cleveland Indians 4-3 at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Tuesday, June 4 in Game 2 of their three match series of the 2013
Major League Baseball regular season.
With their win against the Indians, the Yankees also secured a much needed series win to improve their record 33-25. It was an important win for the Yankees as they managed to reclaim the second spot on the American League East
Division standings table. Yankees’ Manager, Joe Girardi, will be quite content with what he saw from his men in the first two games of the series and it will be interesting to see if Yankees can continue the good work in their upcoming games to replace the
Boston Red Sox at the top of the league standings table.
A lot of credit should be given to the Yankees pitching rotation for executing their game plan to perfection. Starting pitcher, David Phelps, led from the front as he allowed just a hit in six scoreless innings, laying the foundation
of an impressive win for his team. Relief pitchers Boone Logan, David Robertson and Mariano Rivera combined to toss up 2 plus scoreless innings to help the Yankees, hold on to their slim lead.
"He shut them down," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said about Phelps.
"Big home run by Tex. That's two nights in a row," Girardi said. "He's an RBI machine."
"I was up there against my best buddy Robby and just had a little bad luck," Nick Swisher said. "I'm always up for the challenge of playing here and playing against the Yankees. The homer by Stubby rejuvenated us, but we missed
opportunities tonight.
Phelps struck out seven batters, creating all sorts of problems for the Indians’ batting lineup to grab his fourth win of the season. Rivera pitched the perfect ninth to save his 21st game of the season. Ichiro Suzuki
singled to left and Mark Teixeira homered to left in the third inning as the Yankees put up a decent total on the board.
