New York Yankees overcome Texas Rangers 4-3 – MLB news
New York Yankees gave Texas Rangers some taste of their medicine, securing a narrow 4-3 win at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Tuesday, June 25 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
It was an amazing win for the Yankees who have been struggling to find consistency in their game play since the start of the season. A lot of credit should be given to the Manager Jim Leyland and in particular the pitching rotation for executing the game
plan to perfection. With their win, the Yankees improved their win-loss record to 42-34 and it will be interesting to see if Girardi and company can continue their excellent winning streak to have any chance of replacing the Boston Red Sox at the top of the
American League East Division standings table.
Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda produced a magical performance against one of the strongest batting line ups in the league as he allowed just five hits and three runs in six plus innings to lay the foundation of an impressive win for his team. Relief pitchers
Boone Logan, David Robertson and Mariano Rivera all made useful contributions as they combined to toss up two plus scoreless innings of relief and the Yankees held on to their slim lead to clinch a thriller.
“Love it,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “Sometimes it's tough to score runs when you're not hitting home runs. We got enough tonight.”
“I think it was just the wrong pitch at the wrong time,” Tanner Scheppers said. “I probably showed him too many fastballs in that at-bat. Probably should have went with something different.”
“Anyone can contribute, that's the great thing about this game,” Girardi said. “When you have a bat in your hand, you can be part of the story.”
Travis Hafner, Brett Gardner and Jayson Nix hit back to back home runs to help the Yankees come back from behind to level the score 3-3. However, the star of the show was Ichiro Suzuki who smacked the tie breaking home run in the bottom of the ninth.
