New York Yankees overpower Chicago White Sox, 3-1: MLB Update
New York Yankees came-back into the series after overpowering, the Chicago White Sox in a 3-1 low scoring game at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night, April 27.
The Yankees’ bat still has not awakened fully, as their all three runs came of a splendid homer by Robinson Cano in the first inning. After this inning, the Yankees could not make any run until the game ended on 3-1. However, they were fortunate not to receive
more than a run by the opposition that came in the sixth inning.
Overall, the game was on pitcher's side. It was a pleasant surprise for the Yankees to see Bartolo Colon in old phenomenal form. Colon landed the plate with two bases-loaded and came out defeating the Sox’ starter, Mark Buehrle, pitching impressive fastballs.
The 37-year-old hurler held the opposition hitless until the sixth inning and earned his second win. The first in Major League Baseball (MLB) since 2009.
Buehrle seemed impressed with Colon's comeback and said, "It's the best I've ever seen him throw. He's always got that movement, but velocity-wise and the pitches he was throwing, they were pretty much unhittable pitches."
Colon pitched eight innings, allowed one run on seven hits, walked one and took six batters to help the Yankees clinch their thirteenth game of the season. The AL Cy Young Award winner for the Angels, joined the Yankees in February and was given chance in
spring training. He made strong training and forced the manager Joe Girardi to assemble him for a missing Phil Hughes.
Looking at the performance Colon displayed, the Girardi seemed contended, in fact more than this, of his decision. "He continues to impress us. I had no idea what to expect. I knew what he used to be, but he hadn't pitched for distance for a while."
The Closer, Mariano Rivera, pitched a perfect ninth inning for his eighth save of the season. On the other hand, Buehrle, after receiving an early homer, recuperated strongly, pitched six strong innings and made five strikeouts. However, he gave six hits
and two walks in his fourth start of the season. Jesse Crain relieved Buehrle in ninth and tossed a shutout inning for a save.
