New York Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte to play in minors – MLB News
The New York Yankees management is slight confused over the late performance of the team as they are switching players from Major League to the Minors.
Recently, the Yankees have decided that their veteran pitcher Andy Pettitte will be playing for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in Rochester.
This is still not sure that how long Pettitte will be staying in the Minors. However, some say he will potentially replace pitcher Phil Hughes in the coming days. His relation with the team skipper Joe Girardi is also good and if he showed some balanced outings in the Minors, he will be called into the roster again.
“I want to see how he does [today]," Girardi said of Pettitte with quite confidence. “I want to see how he bounces back after 90-plus pitches in his last outing."
The Yankees have some serious issues to tackle this time around. They are at the moment not playing comfortable and especially their pitchers showing no extra level of energy which sometimes needed for more spirited performances.
The role Pettitte used to play in the Yankees was to protect the later part of play from sixth inning to ninth, but with the absence of his play, the Yankees certainly will not be able to achieve persistent results which often relate to team’s overall standing in the competition.
After arriving in Rochester to play in the Minors, Pettitte said of his new role, “I’m going to let them let everybody know what we’ve got going on. I feel like I’m ready, and I think they’re ready for me to come up. It’s inevitable, I believe, to get me up there and get in the mix, You try to get locked in, you try to get focused; but it’s difficult when you’re signing baseballs. It’s exciting for everybody.”
Andy Pettitte is certainly an experienced player. Playing for the Yankees in his second time since 2007, Pettitte has also played for the Houston Astros from 2004 to 2006. His career stats are good where he has so far achieved quite good ERA of 3.88 along with 240-138 win loss record and 2251 strikeouts.
