New York Yankees’ pitcher Joba Chamberlain endures serious ankle injury – MLB News
It seems that the New York Yankees’ star pitcher Joba Chamberlain will not be able to play for entire 2012 Major League Baseball season. Back home, he has received a serious ankle injury which some say needs some nine to ten months to recover leaving all
the options behind for his potential return.
As soon as this news came, the Yankees management along with general manager Brian Cashman told the media and explained the situation in slight detail.
He said, “Joba is in St. Joseph’s Hospital right now. From what we understand he was playing with his son at one of those kid places where you jump around on trampolines. While he was enjoying time with his son under those circumstances, he suffered a very
significant injury, an open dislocation to his right ankle.”
He added, “He underwent a surgical procedure last night. He will be at St. Joseph’s for a number of days. I don’t have a time frame for his return. I immediately communicated with Hal Steinbrenner, Randy Levine (and others). Paramedics were called to the
scene.”
Last June, Chamberlain has also undergone a serious surgery for ulnar collateral ligament replacement and was recovering rapidly. He was also hoping to make a drastic comeback in this year’s All Star break, but now he has to rest all most ten months before
showing his talents on the field once again.
The recent blow of losing a talented player for one whole year is certainly a serious one for the Yankees. They were going pretty smooth and hoping for the best in the coming season. Their Spring Training routines were showing as they want to achieve something
big this time around, but Chamberlain’s absence now will make things slight difficult for them in the long run.
On the other hand, since the Spring Training has over, the Yankees were having a one week’s rest before start of the next season, but with this recent bad news of losing a tremendous player for the whole season, it seems the management went into a deep strategic
change mode and planning silently as how to adjust current rotation with a winning combination.
