New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain recovering fast from ‘Tommy John Surgery’ – MLB News
The New York Yankees relief pitcher, Joba Chamberlain is recovering fast from the ‘Tommy John Surgery’ and is hoping to make a successful comeback in 2012. Recently, he gave an interview via telephone in which he described little details about the surgery
and how much time he needs to recover from his left arm injury.
Chamberlain said with exceptional self-assurance, “I’ve learned a lot this year. Physically, I’m stronger than I’ve ever been, and mentally I’m stronger, too. I’ve always known what’s important, but now I know what it takes to be really successful in this
game. I may not have known except for Tommy John surgery.”
Later, the Yankees general manager, Brian Cashman also said and tried to explain the current situation of Chamberlain’s surgery and how important his early full recovery is crucial for the franchise especially in the near future when their city rivals, the
New York Mets, are preparing very hard for the next season.
Cashman said, “He’s committed and dedicated and that’s great, but we have to be sure to maintain that he does everything in the right pace and doesn’t get too far ahead. It’s hard to say what his timetable is. He’s a reliever, so you don’t have to build
his innings up.”
Chamberlain played only 27 games in the 2011 Major League Baseball regular season and had a 2.83 ERA along with 24 strikeouts and 1.05 WHIP.
These stats, however, do not fully describe the potential relief pitcher’s calibre in the league, as many say that these stats are good for a player who only played this number of games before injuring his arm and underwent a surgery.
For understating his game and his pitching’s tremendous abilities, experts refer to his four year’s career 3.70 ERA along with four saves, 386 strikeouts and a consistent 1.34 WHIP. His career stats certainly make him a true reliever in the Yankees roster.
Behind Dellin Betances, A.J. Burnett and Cesar Cabral, Joba Chamberlain is considered one of the ace players of New York Yankees’ current era. His arrival in the Yankees roster with full recovery will certainly boost their winning chances next season.
