New York Yankees pitchers show support for free-agent catcher Russell Martin – MLB Update
According to some recent reports, New York Yankees pitchers are showing great support for free agent Martin Russell and recognising his contribution and presence in the team as well as his utter need in the Yankees at the moment.
“I think it’s important. He’s been a great addition to our team, on and off the field, That’s not in my department, though. But we’ll have to just wait and see what happens. But he’s been great for us,” CC Sabathia said of re-signing Martin and his potential
new contract with the Yankees.
Later Lowe said. “I had him in L.A, He’s actually probably gotten a little bit better as far as catching because of experience, and with [bench coach] Tony Pena here being a catching guy. There’s not many catchers that are going to hit you 20 home runs and
drive in I don’t know how many he had, call a great game, throw guys out.”
Derek Lowe has also played with Martin when they both were in the Dodgers’ franchise. He as a teammate certainly knows about Martin’s strengths and weaknesses and now letting everyone know that how good and consistent his game is.
Martin who is a free agent know, is looking forward to a decent offer from the Major League teams. Though many teams will be interested to sign Martin, but reports are coming that he the Yankees might sign him again for a next couple of seasons.
Martin came into the Yankees franchise in 2010 after spending four seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. During his time at the New York Yankees, he truly developed as a role player.
Martin is also considered one of the best catchers in the Major League. So far, he has also achieved couple of good awards. Martin, a three-time All Star, has also won Gold Glove and Silver Slugger award.
He finished with .211 hitting average along with 21 homers, 53 RBIs and .311 OBP while his six-year career has also seen consistent growth in his career hitting of .260 along with 93 home runs and 418 RBIs and .352 OBP.
