New York Yankees post 3 record grand slams to beat Oakland Athletics 22-9 – MLB Update
The New York Yankees ruined Oakland Athletics 22-9 in a record-breaking game with their mind blowing hitting performance to avoid series sweep at the jam-packed Yankee Stadium in New York on Thursday, August 25.
The Yankees were furious after losing two straight games from a struggling team and their batting squad was stormy to post the best ever record in the game. After Boone Logan received seven runs in his first three innings, including five run third, the Yankees
line-up became a giant.
Russell Martin started the destruction with his 349-feet long one-run homer. Then in the fifth, Robinson Cano laid down a foundation of the record with a brilliant grand slam off the right-field. It was the first of the three grand slams the Yankees touched
to post a record in Major League Baseball history.
"Definitely cool. It was fun to be part of it," Martin said. "When there's nowhere to put them, they have to throw strikes."
In the next inning, Russell Martin played another part, this time the biggest of his career as he launched the second grand slam for the Yankees in the same game. The Yankees moved to 10-7 from 2-7 in just three innings. Solid bats collaborated in the seventh
to pile six runs. Robinson Cano, Russell Martin, Erick Nunez, Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira each scored an RBI single to elevate the lead to 16-7.
"I'm surprised it hadn't been done before with all the great teams and great individual hitters that have come throughout the course of the game," Granderson said.
The A’s were stunned looking at the sky-high hits going out of the park. Scott Sizemore also launched for the A’s in the top of the eighth, but the Yankees’ arm was in full swing. In the bottom, Brett Gardner scored an RBI single before Curtis Granderson
launched a record making third grand slam of the game. Allan Jones hammered a finalised homer to post 22-8.
Yankees were having chances to toss ever more grand slams, but each time Jeter entered with all the bases loaded, he could not convert it into dream game ever played in the Major League Baseball history. Jeter grounded out twice, walked and struck out once.
"I don't know if I've ever heard of a stat of a guy being up four times with the bases loaded," Girardi said.
The A’s just kept on watching swinging hits throughout the game. It was a kind of revenge the Yankees had sworn before the game.
