New York Yankees re-sign Andy Pettitte – MLB Update
Yesterday was a good day in New York Yankees history as they re-signed one of the most coveted Major League starters, Andy Pettitte and placed a forceful impression for a new season next year.
“I’m at the point, if I didn’t feel like we had a chance to win deep down I wouldn’t do this. I feel like we’ve got a certain group of guys that are still there and that know how to win and know how to get it done and that we can still do that,” said Pettitte on his new deal with the New York Yankees.
He added with more detail, “I’m very disappointed in the way that last year ended and I know everyone is and what I’m hoping is that we can learn from that. That we can learn from the failures we had last year in the playoffs and disappointment and be better.”
The New York Yankees' management re-signed Andy Pettitte for a one-year contract. Pettitte, out of retirement, played a successful post-season with the Yankees and showed his class.
He will earn $12 million for his one-year deal. The Yankees took a bold decision by signing Pettitte for one more year before Major League Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings.
Before signing this deal, many speculations were coming from the Yankees' camp. They wanted to attend this year’s Winter Meeting to identify their salary slash for 2013. However, the Yankees without going into Winter Meetings protected their pitching spot.
Mariano Rivera on the other hand, still has to wait for some more time. He is also expecting a deal from the Yankees soon.
Defending American League East Champions, the New York Yankees, have told some in the media at the end the season that they will be trying hard to retain some of their top pitchers.
To achieve this goal, the Yankees' management evaluated their players’ performance and later decided to offer them a potential deal.
Hiroki Kuroda, Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera was on their wish list while now just one player (Rivera) is remaining who still has not got any potential offer from the Yankees.
