New York Yankees retaliate with a 8-3 triumph over Colorado Rockies: MLB Update
After receiving a 4-2 loss in first game, the New York Yankees retaliated like a wounded tiger and overpowered the Colorado Rockies with 8-3, at the Yankee Stadium in New York, on Saturday night June 24, to tie the interleague series 1-1.
The Yankees took the game into their side right from the first inning and kept control until they assured their win. They put two runs in the first inning, three in the third, then one in the sixth and again two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Curtis Granderson, who has started the Yankees game many times in this season, again took the pledge and drove in to the right side of the field for an RBI single. Then Alex Rodriguez, who is moving towards his 3000 RBIs, came into action with an RBI single
to take the lead to 2-0. Rodriguez added another double in the third inning, before Nick Swisher hit a sacrifice fly to take it to 5-0.
Then in the sixth inning, Jorge Posada took it to 6-0 with an RBI single and after the Yankees’ starter, Sabathia, allowed his first run in the top of the eighth inning, Mark Teixeira blistered a dazzling homer to take the lead to 8-1. Before this run, the
Yankees’ starter, Carsten Charles Sabathia, held the opposition to no-score. Sabathia was ready to take his pinching to full game but in the eighth inning, he tossed some wobbly pitches that cost him a run.
"I wish I could say it meant something, but it don't," he said with a shrug and a sly smile. "We're here to win championships. That's what we're trying to do."
Overall, Sabathia allowed just one run, on seven hits, one walked and struck-out nine batters to enter his winning games into double figures. After seventeen starts in this season, Sabathia became the one of the first pitchers, who made ten wins. He now
has 10-4 record with an 3.25 ERA.
"He's the same guy every day," The Yankees' manager, Joe Girardi, said. "He just goes out and pitches and wins ballgames. That's what he does."
The Yankees' closer, Buddy Carlyle, allowed two-run homer to the Rockies' Ty Wigginton in the ninth inning to reduce the winning margin to 8-3. With this win, the Yankees’ record has improved to 44 with 31 losses While Rockies' winning and losing numbers
are same at 38.
