New York Yankees rout Texas Rangers 3-0 at Yankee Stadium – MLB Update
New York Yankees edged the Texas Rangers 3-0 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Tuesday, August 14 in second game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
After securing a comprehensive 8-2 win in series opener, Joe Girardi and company adopted a very aggressive in Game 2. Yankees’ pitching rotation in particular showed just what it’s capable of, creating all sorts of problems for one of the top offensive teams
in the American League.
Hiroki Kuroda pitched his first complete game of the season to improve his record to 11-8. In a display of complete dominance, Yankees’ starting pitcher Kuroda gave up just two hits in nine solid innings, striking-out five batters.
"This is a very good lineup that he just shut down," Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi said. "Probably our best pitching performance of the year."
"He's been really, really big for us and he could have a number of more wins. He's been the hard-luck guy for us this year," he added. "That was his 11th win for us. Realistically, he could have 15 or 16 at this juncture."
"When you've got a great lineup like that," Kuroda said. "You can't lose your focus until the end."
His counterpart from Rangers, Matt Harrison gave up just a run in six plus innings but he couldn’t match Kuroda’s figures.
Nick Swisher has looked in commanding touch over the last few days and he continued his excellent hitting form on Tuesday with a home-run to right centre in the seventh inning to break the deadlock. Mark Teixeira also played a significant role in deciding
the outcome of the clash, adding a solo home-run to right in the seventh to stretch Yankees lead to 3-0.
"I was hitting on sound at that point. I mean, he's throwing 100 mph," Swisher said.
With their win, Yankees consolidated their position at the top of American League East Division standings and it will be interesting to see if they can give similar results in their next two games to complete a rare series sweep against Texas Rangers.
