New York Yankees secure a hard fought 6-5 win against Los Angeles Angels – MLB Update
New York Yankees secured a hard fought 6-5 win against Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in Anaheim, California on Wednesday, May 30 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Mark Trumbo had another decent outing as he hit a sacrifice fly to right in the first inning to put Los Angeles 1-0 ahead. Curtis Granderson hit a three run home run to right centre in third inning as Yankees took a crucial 3-1 lead.
Robinson Cano also joined the party as he homered to right to cap a five-run third inning. For the Angles, Trumbo homered in the fourth and Mike Trout added an RBI double to deep right centre to level score 5-5 as the game entered a very exciting phase.
Yankees’ Starting pitcher Ivan Nova allowed three hits and three walks in six plus innings to win for the second time on the road trip.
Nick Swisher hit a tie breaking sacrifice fly in the sixth and the Yankees held on to their slim advantage to secure an emphatic victory.
"At some point I'm going to start pitching better, and hopefully it's soon," Nova said. "The whole team battled, and we won. That's more important than what I did."
"It's the difference in our game, what our bullpen did," manager Joe Girardi said in a post game interview. "It's nice. (Going) 4-2 on this road trip so far sounds better than 3-3."
The victory will be of great importance for New York who had looked a bit out of sorts in the opening two games of the series. Angeles held their nerves to clinch a thriller in the opener. In a display of complete domination, they secured a comfortable 5-1
win in the second game to take a deceive 2-0 lead.
Credit goes to the Yankees who lifted their spirits just at the right time. With their win on Wednesday evening, Joe Girardi and company avoided the series sweep and they also improved their record to 27-23. It will be interesting to see if they can continue
their winning streak in their next series against Detroit Tigers.
