New York Yankees set their sights on Raul Ibanez – MLB News
It looks like it has been a busy week for the New York Yankees as it is being reported that the team are looking to sign the talented left handed hitter for the upcoming 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Ibanez was with the Philadelphia Phillies last year as he had signed a three year contract with the team back in 2008. He has had a tremendous 16-year career in MLB. The Yankees are showing great interest in possibly signing him soon. The team is looking
to add some depth and strength to their batting line-up and they feel that Ibanez might just be the right man for the job.
Raul had a decent 2011 season with the Phillies. He managed to play 144 games with 84 RBIs and 20 home-runs. His slugging percentage of .419 and OBP of .289 is quite commendable. The Yankees seem to be impressed by his consistency and ability to play in
left-field.
The Yankees will be looking to strengthen their batting line-up before the start of Spring Training. The team understands the importance of getting the line-up perfectly balanced before the start of the regular season. Adding Ibanez might just be the best
left handed fit for the team.
New York is not the sort of team to take things lightly in their preparations during the offseason. If they focus their attention on a particular player like Ibanez, there is always a very valid reason for doing so. The team is notoriously known for finding
the right player at the right time for just the right position in their squad.
Whatever the case, Ibanez will be turning 40 this year and any contract that the Yankees might offer him, will most likely be short-term depending on his performance. For Ibanez, a contract with the Yankees will be a dream, as they are one of the hottest
teams in MLB and their potential postseason chances are always very high.
It will be interesting to see if the Yankees manage to sign Ibanez to decent contract and fill the left hand hitting position in their batting line-up.
