New York Yankees set to take on Boston Red Sox in four game series – MLB Update
New York Yankees have looked in commanding form this season. Credit must be given to the Manager Joe Girardi and General Manager Brian Cashman who have implemented their strategic plan superbly.
The Yankees take on their arch rivals Boston Red Sox in a four game series starting from July 6. Despite half the season already being played, it will just be the start of Yankees-Red Sox rivalry. The Red Sox are managed by Bobby Valentine, who managed New
York Yankees some time ago.
Although the Yankees lost two of their finest pitchers last week, they have enough pitching resources to beat any Major League Baseball team. Both C.C. Sabathia and Andy Pettitte are sitting on the Disabled List and it is unclear when exactly they will be
able to return.
Ivan Nova, Hiroki Kuroda and Phil Hughes are some of the most talented starters in the American League and in the absence of Sabathia and Pettitte; they will have to step in to take on the responsibility.
“We have to play better within our division,” said Phil Hughes, who will start the second half of Saturday’s day-night doubleheader. “We haven’t played especially well against the Eastern teams, but we’re going to have to do that if we want to do what we
want to do in this division. Every team is good, so it’s more important than ever.”
“More than anything, you want to be sprinting to end that first half,” Nick Swisher said. “You want to finish strong, especially when you have division opponents. It’s going to be a great series.”
The Bombers will invade Fenway Park in Boston on Friday, July 6 and they will be playing four games in three days. In some ways, it will be an extremely important series for both teams. Yankees, who are the leaders of the American League East Division, will
be looking to continue their impressive winning streak to finish on a high note before the All Star Break.
Yankees have beaten the Red Sox in both their meetings earlier this season and they will be entering the series as the favourites. Surely Boston will be looking to turn the tables on their opponents this time around.
