New York Yankees shatter Baltimore Orioles’ dreams with 3-1 win in Game 5 of ALDS – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles’ Manager Buck Showalter will be extremely disappointed with the outcome of Orioles’ five game ALDS series against the New York Yankees.
In Game 5 on Friday evening, Baltimore was outclassed by their American League East opponents in finer details of the game. Orioles’ hitters were unable to find scoring ways against Yankees’ ace C.C. Sabathia.
Using his fastballs and slider very effectively, Sabathia created all sorts of problems for the Orioles’ batting line-up. His accuracy and consistency dented Orioles’ confidence levels right from the start of the contest.
Showalter and company had an excellent chance to break their 29 season losing streak on Friday. Orioles’ last World Series triumph came in 1983 and the fans were expecting them to continue their impressive form in the finale to reach World Series finals.
However, the night belonged to the Yankees who executed their game plan to perfection to seal a memorable series victory.
"We'll enjoy this one for a few minutes," Yankees’ Derek Jeter said in a post game interview, "and then get ready for tomorrow"
Orioles’ starting pitcher Jason Hammel had a decent outing as he gave up just four hits and two runs in five plus solid innings. However, the right hander was unfortunate to end up on the losing side.
Relief pitchers Troy Patton, Pedro Strop and Brian Matusz combined to concede just one run in two plus innings but the Orioles were unable to post enough runs on the board.
"He didn't pitch all five, but it certainly felt like it, didn't it?" Showalter said.
"It's been about as much fun as I have had in the big leagues watching how they play the game every day, the standard they held themselves to and the way they raised the bar in Baltimore with each other," said Showalter, who has not reached the LCS in 14
Major League seasons.
Lew Ford, Matt Wieters and Manny Machado combined to put Orioles on the board. However, New York held on to their slim lead comfortably to oust the Orioles. It will be interesting to see if the Yankees can give similar results against the inform Detroit
Tigers to reach World Series finals.
