New York Yankees’ shortstop Derek Jeter happy with C. C. Sabathia’s performance – MLB Update
New York Yankees' shortstop Derek Jeter is happy about his team-mate C. C. Sabathia.
"He's our go-to guy, He's been our go-to guy since he's been here," Jeter said.
Sabathia, who played a key role on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles with his great and persistent pitching outclassed them with style.
Sabathia tossed nine innings and received one run and four hits and rattled the Orioles’ upfront batting prowess. He retired nine while he maintained his ERA at 1.53.
Jeter, on the other hand, also appreciated his team-mate’s tremendous performance and praised him on what he achieved for the Yankees.
With that particular win on Friday, the Yankees also went ahead to play for the American League Championship Series.
On one end, the Tigers are already qualified to play the ALCS, while the Yankees have now booked their place as well.
In Friday’s game, the Orioles’ could not show their natural game and lost in the end. Their batters and pitchers played poorly and were just overwhelmed by the Yankees’ offence.
"They are a very good club and they are a very resilient club, You have a bunch of young kids over there that just play the game the right way and play hard. And you think about it, we played 23 games, and there were four runs that separated us. It's an accomplishment for both clubs because they never went away. People thought they were going to go away, they never went away," Yankees' manager Joe Girardi said of Orioles later in the game and talked in detail for their team and for their temperament to play big games.
Adam Jones also said, "It's just unfortunate a lot of guys got cold at the wrong time."
Orioles’ starter and relief pitcher were the real causes that Baltimore just could not raise to the occasion.
Jason Hammel pitched 5.2 innings and received two runs and four hits. He struck-out six while his ERA rose to 3.18.
Relief pitcher Troy Patton also was hammered with big hits. He received one run and smashed one hit. He struck-out three while his ERA also rose to 4.50.
