New York Yankees’ shortstop Derek Jeter looks confident ahead of next season – MLB News
The New York Yankees’ talented shortstop and current team captain Derek Jeter is looking in great shape as he arrived in Arizona with his other teammates for 2012 Major League Spring Training.
Jeter, 37, not only looked confident while training, but he also talked to journalists and told them about the level of enthusiasm he is feeling this season to provide his team with another World Series Championship.
Jeter, slightly, also commented on his teammate Mariano Rivera’s late comments as this MLB season will be the last season for Jeter. Rivera, a long-time Yankee is considered one of the closest buddies of Jeter in the entire league. Jeter said with detail covering all the late concerns regarding his own game as well as future playing commitments in the league and for the Yankees.
"If I didn’t think that I was capable of playing the game at a high level I would go home," Jeter said. "If I wasn’t enjoying myself or enjoying the competition I would go home. Right now I am an enjoying myself. I can’t comment on what would force me to retire because I have a lot of confidence and if that starts to waver I would do it."
"Work is never fun; it gets a lot more difficult. As you get older it’s easier to stay in shape than it is to get back in shape," Jeter said.
Jeter is playing with the Yankees for almost 16 years since being drafted in 1995. From the start of his career he showed his true talents. Later when he achieved his peak, many teams started pursuing him and made lucrative offers to Jeter, but not only he declined all those offers, but he also made a commitment then as he will not be playing for any franchise in his career except the Yankees.
Now, since that day, Jeter never talked and showed any reason to be playing for another franchise. On the other hand, from that day onwards, no other MLB team had offered him any deal as they already knew his answer.
On contrary to his commitment with the team, Derek Jeter’s comments are a good sign for the entire Yankees’ management, who once again will try their best to win another MLB title and show the world why they are considered one of the best franchises in the Major League.
