New York Yankees show interest in infielder Stephen Drew – MLB Update
New York Yankees played a fantastic 2012 Major League Baseball season as they advanced into post-season with ease.
However, they could not show their natural aggressive plays and lost early in the post-season.
On the other hand, the San Francisco Giants’ won the World Series while as soon as the season ended, the Yankees started exploring options to rebuild the team which could not resist the pressure during the last stages of the post-season.
Now reports are coming that in the media that Yankees’ front office reportedly in favour of signing infielder Stephen Drew.
Along with Stephen Drew, the Yankees are also interested to sign Jeff Keppinger.
Experts believe that New York Yankees are getting desperate seeing shortstop Derek Jeter’s latest ankle injury.
Some say that the Yankees will be looking for a potential replacement for Jeter soon.
"I'm not looking to replace Derek Jeter, He'll be playing every day for the whole year,'' Yankees' general manager Brian Cashman said as he explained in the media regarding a Jeter’s replacement.
“I fully expect him to be ready,'' Cashman said of Jeter.
On the other hand, regarding Yankees’ desire to sign Stephen Drew is certainly logical and if this potential signing went successful, Brian Cashman will be happy to see his team going forward.
Drew is former Oakland Athletics' ace player and certainly possesses large Major League experience. After the 2012 MLB season, the Athletics declined team options on him.
“We are definitely hoping to continue the conversation,” A’s assistant general manager David Forst said. “We would like Stephen back, but not under this contract.”
Drew is a good player and played well during the 2012 MLB season. He averaged .223 hitting along with seven homers, 28 RBIs and .309 OBP.
With six-years of professional baseball experience, he also achieved good numbers. He is currently averaging .265 on hitting along with 77 home-runs, 349 RBIs and .328 OBP.
Drew stared his career in 2006 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He showed consistent performance throughout his Major League career and earned great appreciation for his extraordinary commitment with the game.
