New York Yankees shutout by Kansas City Royals 0-6 – MLB Update
New York Yankees had another forgettable night as they were shutout by Kansas City Royals 0-6 at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Monday, May 21 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Yankees’ starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda looked completely out of sorts as he gave up three runs on seven hits in just over five innings. His poor effort on Monday’s evening damaged his ERA to 4.56 and it will be interesting to see if he can bounce back on his next opportunity.
Mike Moustakas homered to right in the first inning to score the first run for the Royals. Eric Hosmer and Jeff Francoeur also played their part in determining the end result of the clash.
"It's very frustrating," Alex Rodriguez said. "We've talked about it over and over again. You can't really describe it. It's not a lot of fun obviously going out and not getting the job done. But at this point, nobody's going to feel sorry for us."
"It's really cool," Moustakas said. "Coming into this park, you know all the history behind old Yankee Stadium and the kind of things they brought. Just to play in this stadium is awesome."
Manager Joe Girardi and General Manager Brian Cashman will be very worried these days. Yankees have lost six out of their last seven games. Struggling to execute their game plan, the Yankees were hammered by Cleveland Indians in their previous three game series and they were hoping to find their lost form against the struggling Kansas City.
However, unfortunately for the Yankees’ fans that did not turn out to be the case as their team failed to convert some easy scoring opportunities and ended up on the losing side,
Kansas City, on the other hand, took complete advantage of Yankees’ unforced errors as they improved their record to 17-24. After making a very poor start to the season, the Royals have finally started to show some signs of form and it will be interesting to see if they can give similar performances in the next two games to earn a rare series sweep at Yankee Stadium.
