New York Yankees sign Bartolo Colon to Minor League contract – MLB News
The New York Yankees recently signed pitcher Bartolo Colon to a Minor League contract. Colon is a former Cy Young Award winner. The Yankees understand his immense talent and are looking to get him some practice in the Minor League with the possibility of
him become a part of the Major League pitching rotation based on his performance during Spring Training.
If Colon manages to impress and puts in a decent pitching performance for the Yankees during Spring Training, there is a real possibility that he will become a part of the main pitching rotation for the 2011 regular season.
Colon has played for different teams throughout his career. He was a part of the Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Angels, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees.
During 2009 Colon had a Win-Loss record of 153-103 with an ERA average of 4.10. He is a very talented pitcher capable of putting up some brilliant numbers when he is healthy and in good throwing form.
The addition of Colon by the Yankees increases their pitching depth for potential requirements needed during the regular season. The team is looking to Colon as a back-end pitcher that can put in a decent effort and provide a good support role for the front
line pitchers.
Although there is not time factor to Colon’s contract with the Yankees, it seems the team has put into account the older age of the pitcher, as he will be turning 38 soon and the fact that he did not pitch all last year. It looks as if the Yankees have brought
Colon into their squad for his vast pitching experience and his talents.
Colon will be looking to focus on putting a good performance during his Spring Training invitation by the Yankees. If he manages to impress the team, there may be a real possibility of putting him in the final pitching rotation for the upcoming regular season.
Whatever the reasons are behind signing Colon, the Yankees know how to win and they are known for their cunning off-season decisions which sometimes even stump the experts but pay off in the long run.
