New York Yankees sign former Atlanta Braves hitter Matt Diaz – MLB Update
The New York Yankees have landed talented right handed hitter Matt Diaz in the roster by signing him for a $1.2 million deal. Along with this deal, the former Atlanta Braves hitter can also earn more $800,000 in performance salary.
The New York Yankees management was already searching for a good right hand batting combination and now with arrival of Diaz, the South New York baseball franchise will feel more comfortable going into a fresh Major League Baseball season.
“I’m healthy and I feel like I can go to camp and show what I can do, If I can go and do what I do, which is hit lefties and take tough at-bats against them, that’s what the Yankees need and want. It will be a good fit,” said Diaz, who played only 51 games
in 2012 after undergoing midseason thumb surgery, explained in the media with detail.
Matt Diaz added, "I’ve been regretting not chasing this angle for more than two years, Ever since then, I thought, ‘Man, I may never get a chance to play for the Yankees.’ Once they came into the picture it was pretty much over in my book."
Diaz last played for the Atlanta Braves and performed quite well. He achieved consistent numbers showed tremendous courage on the plate. He remained persistent on .222 hitting average along with two homers, 13 RBIs and .280 OBP.
Not only in the last Major League Baseball season, but Matt Diaz has also been showing consistent performances since his arrival in the big league. He started his career in 2003 from the Tampa Bay Rays and went onto play for the Kansas City Royals, Atlanta
Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates and Atlanta Braves.
In his nine year career so far, Diaz has achieved career .291 hitting average along with 45 home runs, 225 RBIs and .339 OBP. Wherever he has played, he showed his consistent form and earned appreciation from many experts.
Meanwhile, it is a healthy sign that Diaz has signed with the New York Yankees as his presence will give them more confidence to play in the next big event.
