New York Yankees sign on right hander Derek Lowe – MLB Update
According to a leading sports website, New York Yankees have signed on veteran right hander Derek Lowe on Monday. Lowe, who is an extremely talented pitcher, is expected to join the team on Tuesday in their game against the red hot Texas Rangers.
''I was honest with myself,'' said Lowe after just arriving at Yankee Stadium. ''I said, 'I'm not going to go back if I can't figure out what I have to change.'''
''I had to get back to hiding the ball a little better,'' Lowe said. ''I'm not going to do jumping jacks because you pitch one good game because you're in this for the long haul.''
The move does not come as a surprise after Yankees’ pitching rotation struggled to achieve their desired results after the All Star Break. Yankees ended first half of the season as the most successful team in the American League but results have not remained
the same since then.
According to sources, Lowe has agreed to pitch out of the bullpen. He struggled to find his form in his tenure with the Cleveland Indians when he went 8-10 with a poor 5.52 ERA in 21 starts. Lowe, who will be hoping to cement his place on the Yankees’ big
league roster, was available for assignment on August 1 after clearing waivers.
There is no denying the fact Lowe is one of the most talented and gifted pitchers in the game. He started the season on a very bright note. However, with each passing game he lost his confidence. The stats show how dramatically his form dipped.
He was 6-1 with an incredible 2.05 ERA early on but in his final 12 starts, he managed to get just two wins at the cost of nine losses, allowing 65 runs, 97 hits while striking-out just 28 in 66 plus innings.
With ace C.C. Sabathia also in the pitching line-up, Lowe will have an excellent chance to polish his skills. Although Sabathia is still on the 15-day Disabled List, the Yankee now have more depth and variety in their rotation and it will be interesting
to see if they can end the season on a bright note.
