New York Yankees slip to Chicago White 1-2 in series finale – MLB Update
New York Yankees lost to the Chicago White 1-2 in a low scoring game at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, August 22 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
It was an amazing display of controlled aggression by the White Sox who moved two games ahead of second placed Detroit Tigers on the American League Central Division standings table. Showing great composure, aggression and determination, Chicago overcame
the Yankees in an emphatic fashion on Wednesday to complete the series sweep.
"I felt great. Obviously I wanted to stay in there but late in game like that and when (the) pitch count gets up, adrenaline will get you through it. You want to finish the job you started," White Sox’s starting pitcher Chris Sale said.
"He's funky. He's got a funky motion. He's especially tough on lefties. He throws hard," Jeter said of Sale. "His fastball moves, a lot of off-speed pitches, which is surprising considering how hard he throws. He can overpower you when he needs to, but we
didn't get much going off of him at all."
Credit should be given to Manager Robin Ventura and his men for maintaining such a high level of play against the leaders of American League East Division. It will be interesting to see if they can build on their lead over the Tigers in the upcoming games
to reach the playoffs.
Yankees, on the other hand, will be looking to learn the lessons from the mistakes they made in the series. The offence, in particular, will be looking to become more consistent to give New York a chance of lifting this year’s World Series title.
After Kevin Youkilis provided the White Sox with an early 1-0 lead, Derek Jeter homered to left in the sixth to add spice to the proceedings but the Yankees were unable to make use of the momentum and the White Sox came back from behind to register an impressive
win.
Starting pitcher Phil Hughes took the loss despite his wonderful pitching effort. He gave up just five hits and two runs in seven solid innings.
