New York Yankees star slugger Alex Rodriguez undergoes Orthokine therapy for knee - MLB News
New York Yankees star slugger, Alex Rodriguez is reportedly in Germany and receiving Orthokine treatment for his right knee to prevent further complications in the near future. This cutting-edge state of the art medical procedure will help Rodriguez to stay
healthy and injury free for a longer period.
The Yankees general manager, Brian Cashman explained regarding this experimental and advanced procedure and said that it will help Rodriguez in the coming years to stay well on the baseball field for a longer period of time. Cashman added, “This is more
about maintaining health going forward rather than having any problem. Obviously, Alex is our biggest investment, so we agreed to let him go the extra mile.”
Before Rodriguez, the National Basketball Association and Los Angeles Lakers’ ace, Kobe Bryant had a similar kind of treatment on his knee several years ago that also went successful.
Earlier on Rodriguez’ complicated procedure, Gary Green, who is the UCLA physician medical director for Major League Baseball, describing little details about this procedure said, “The basic problem is that this is an evolving field, and there certainly
are not any well-controlled studies at this point that show what it’s effective for and what it’s not effective for.”
Another physician, Dr. Lewis Maharam, who is a specialist in treating athletes with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, has also spoken about the Orthokine treatment that Rodriguez is receiving in Germany. He said, “The Germans say that another protein that
counteracts the effects of IL-1 is a ‘good protein’ in the body called anti-IL(1) produced by blood cells that protects cartilage by keeping the pro-inflammatory proteins in check.”
The Yankees medical staff is saying that Rodriguez will recover very soon and will be in-action in the upcoming training sessions and the 2012 MLB regular season.
Last season, an injury blighted Rodriguez still went to hit an average of .276 along with 16 home-runs, 62 RBIs and relatively consistent OBP of .362, while his career hitting average of .302 with 629 homers, 1893 RBIs and .386 OBP certainly make him one
of the most aggressive players in the current MLB era.
