New York Yankees start to panic after losing C.C. Sabathia and Andy Pettitte – MLB News
This is not the time for New York Yankees to panic. Joe Girardi and company have displayed some top quality baseball skills since the start of the season. They are also one of the few teams who have managed to beat American League West Division leaders,
the Texas Rangers.
Surely, the Yankees are feeling the heat after losing two of their best starting pitchers, C.C. Sabathia and Andy Pettitte but they have enough resources to maintain their excellent winning run. Under pressure, Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi and General Manager
Brian Cashman have also made some wrong decisions.
Girardi made critical errors on Friday evening in a game against the Chicago White Sox, which cost Yankees the game. Of course, injuries to ace Sabathia and veteran starter Pettitte is a huge loss, the Yankees should try and stay positive in their approach.
After all, that is what their fans expect them to do. Yankees’ response to the whole situation will be exciting to watch.
“You get caught up so much in what’s going bad. You have to remember what’s going so good,” Analyst Paul O’Neill said. “The Yankees are having a tremendous June. They’re scoring runs. They have guys hitting home runs. The bullpen is tremendous. This team
can go out and throw up big numbers and still win games.”
“You don’t worry who is on the mound,” he added. “. . . They’re in a focus of going out and expecting to win every day. That’s what you look at, not what you don’t have.”
Phil Hughes and Hiroki Kuroda will have added responsibility on their shoulders over the next few weeks but Girardi will also have to make sure that he gives enough rest to his starting pitchers.
Injuries are definitely creating all sorts of problems for New York this season. A few weeks ago, their leading pitching prospect Michael Pineda announced that he will be missing the entire season due to a serious shoulder injury.
Mariano Rivera was lost by the Yankees in early May due to a knee injury and Pettitte was hit on his ankle in a game against the Cleveland Indians. Now is the time for Yankees to step forward and show the baseball world what they are capable of.
