New York Yankees' starter Andy Pettitte is ready to face Detroit Tigers’ ace Miguel Cabrera and slugger Prince Fielder in the upcoming American League Championship Series.
Pettitte, who has best career record in post-seasons, knows his role in the upcoming encounter with the Tigers.
“Like I said a lot of times, I came back to hopefully help this club get into this position, to help this pitching staff, to help take some of the stress off the other starters, So it’s nice to feel like I have been able to do that, whenever I have been able to be healthy get out there,” Pettitte said as he explained about the coming big Game 1.
Yankees are coming with a great ALDS victory against the Baltimore Orioles while the Tigers’ rattled the Oakland Athletics in their five-match ALDS encounter.
This is to remember, that Pettitte came out of retirement to the Yankees’ roster just to play last stages of the 2012 Major League season.
Pettitte suffered couple of setbacks in this year. First he got injured with his left leg early in the season while later after he knew that his recovery is taking too much time, he decided to retire but later he changed his mind and came back in the Yankees’ rotation.
During the press conference, Pettitte seemed excited to start the first game of ALCS. He knows the way this season has turned out for the Yankees’ and for him is a great blessing.
Regarding the big game of ALCS, Pettitte answered couple of reporters who asked him questions on facing Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera as he said, “Obviously he doesn’t have a lot of holes. He’s got power to the opposite field, and he’s got pull power, He will be a big key. To try and shut him down — I don’t know if you can shut him down.”
Many experts believe, that this coming series will be huge for Pettitte’s future. Every Yankees’ fan will be watching him to see how much enthusiasm he still possesses.
His 16-year career has been remained quite consistent with his 3.86 ERA along with 245-142, 2320 strike-outs and 1.35 WHIP.
