New York Yankees stun Atlanta Braves 6-4 – MLB Update
New York Yankees continued their impressive run, beating Atlanta Braves 6-4 at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia on Tuesday, June 12 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Yankees have now extended their winning streak to five games and they lost just two of their last ten games. Such an incredible streak has helped them get to the top of American League East Division standings.
New York’s unique ability to win games when it matters the most lets them make it to the playoffs almost every season.
However, with even better equipped hitting and pitching lineups, Joe Girardi and company will be looking to make it to the World Series finals this season.
Matt Diaz looked in terrific touch on Tuesday evening as he doubled to deep right in the first inning to put the Braves 3-0 ahead.
Jason Heyward also made a useful contribution with the bat as he grounded out to second in the seventh inning to help his side take complete control of the situation.
"It means a lot," Rodriguez said. "It's very special. This game is very, very difficult. If you're not going to enjoy these great moments, then it's not any fun. Lou Gehrig is not only one of the all-time greats, but he's one of ours."
"It's hard to fathom what he's been able to do in his career," Yankees’ Manager Girardi said in a post game interview. ”To be mentioned with Lou Gehrig, that's special."
With bases load, Alex Rodriguez hit a mighty grand slam in the eighth to turn things around for the Yankees, levelling score at 4-4.
Nick Swisher, once again proved how valuable he is for his team as he drove in a tie breaking two run home run off Cory Gearrin in the eighth to secure an emphatic victory.
With Yankees trailing 4-0 after seven innings, Yankees’ ace C.C. Sabathia will consider himself extremely lucky to win the game.
Braves’ relief pitcher Jonny Venters had a horrible time on the mound, giving up a two run home run to Swisher in the only inning pitched.
