New York Yankees thrash Cleveland Indians 7-1 at Yankee Stadium – MLB Update
New York Yankees thrashed Cleveland Indians 7-1 at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Monday, June 25 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Manager Joe Girardi and company put up another powerful performance on Monday afternoon as they dominated their opponents in almost all departments of the game. The Yankees, once again, showed their bullpen strength as they gave up just one run to the Indians
in a game that proved to be completely one sided at the end.
Robinson Cano continued his excellent form as he doubled to deep centre in the first inning and Curtis Granderson scored to put the Yankees 2-0 ahead. Left Fielder Dewayne Wise also displayed some top quality hitting skills as he hit his first home run of
the season in the second inning and the Yankees took complete control of the situation.
Cano took all the responsibility on his shoulders and he homered to right in the third inning to extend the lead to 5-0. Nick Swisher also joined the party with a home run to left and Wise tripled to deep centre in the sixth to deny the Indians any chance
of making a comeback.
"Everything's just real chill right now," Swisher said. "Everything's just real mellow. We're having a good time."
"It feels good. Everything is connecting," said Cano, who raised his batting average to .164 with his 17th home run of this season.
"You can hold him down for a while, but he's going to get hot," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.
Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda also had a great time on the mound as he improved to 4-1 in his last six starts.
"It's a great feeling and I'm glad I was able to pitch as I did," Kuroda said through a translator. "The fans expect that."
It was Yankees’ 13th win in last 16 games and credit must be given to them for maintaining their excellent form over a long period of time. It will be interesting to see if New York can produce similar results throughout this series to cement
their place at the top of American League East Division standings.
