New York Yankees thrash Kansas City Royals 10-4 – MLB Update
New York Yankees thrashed Kansas City Royals 10-4 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday, May 6 in the finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. With their win over the Royals, the Yankees also improved their win-loss record to 15-13.
New York is considered the club with the most resources in MLB and the fans were expecting their team to walk away with easy wins this season but that has not turned out to be the case. General Manager Brian Cashman will be hoping that the Yankees put up similar numbers in their upcoming series’ to make it to the playoffs.
Struggling Kansas City managed to grab just one win in the series, which came in the third game. Apart from that, they failed to execute their game plan on each occasion and the Yankees punished them hard for their unforced errors.
Phil Hughes will be delighted to win for the second time this season. It was only the second time he allowed less than four runs to the opposition this year. The Royals has nine hits in total against New York but they were unable to put the pieces of the puzzle together. For the Yankees, Raul Ibanez, Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson made the most of scoring opportunities to give their side 7-1 lead in the third.
"I kind of got into a groove after the second inning," Hughes said. "The few times there were guys in scoring position, I was able to execute my pitches and get out of jams."
"You look at his at-bats today and they were really good," Girardi said. "We know he's a little behind where we expected him to be at this time of the year, but he's not the only hitter in Major League Baseball that's a little behind. He'll catch up."
The Yankees have improved their game play significantly over the last few weeks. After receiving 0-3 hammering at the hands of Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium, Joe Girardi and his men have successfully found ways of beat their rivals in American League.
