New York Yankees threatening more with each passing game – MLB Update
New York Yankees’ fans will be very pleased with the way their team has bounced back after making an ordinary start to their 2012 Major League Baseball regular season campaign.
In their first three games series of the season, the Yankees paid the ultimate price for their unforced errors and their opponents Tampa Bay Rays secured a deserving 3-0 series sweep. Joe Girardi and his men have improved their game play significantly since
then.
With 16 wins in their last 26 games, it seems the Yankees are moving towards the right direction. New York is a club with most resources and General Manager utilised those resources extremely efficiently during the offseason to strengthen Yankees’ bullpen
and offence.
Hiroki Kuroda, Phil Hughes, Michael Pineda and C.C. Sabathia were the four main pillars of Yankees’ pitching attack before Pineda injured himself in a routine practice session. According to sources a surgery will be performed on his shoulder to repair the
torn ACL.
Pineda may be out for the full season but the Yankees have shown no signs of slowing down and they beat the Rays 5-3 on Sunday, May 8 at Yankees Stadium in the opening game of their three match series.
"I think Mo would've thrown 12 pitches and broke a bat and we would have been out of here 20 minutes ago," reliever David Robertson said.
Starting Pitcher Ivan Nova was rewarded for his high quality and accurate pitching. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and struck out eight in seven sharp innings to bounce back from a15-game winning streak snap on his previous appearance.
"It's just like at Fenway. With the short field in right, the relay throw doesn't have to be long," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "I thought he would have been out if he went, whether Swisher hit the cutoff or not."
"Just trying not to do too much," Ibanez said. "Put an easy swing on the ball."
Raul Ibanez and Curtis Granderson put up a fine show in hitting department of the game to give their side a comfortable lead to overcome the Rays.
