New York Yankees trade Adam Olbrychowski to Washington Nationals for Justin Maxwell – MLB News
It looks like the New York Yankees are trying to build up some depth in their team as they recently traded minor league pitcher Adam Olbrychowski to the Washington Nationals for Justin Maxwell.
Maxwell is an exceptional out-fielder and will definitely add some strength to the Yankees fielder efforts for the 2011 regular season.
"I'm very excited," Justin Maxwell said. "I feel blessed that the Yankees were willing to take a chance on me considering I'm coming off season surgery. I'm excited for the new opportunity and for the new year."
Recent elbow surgery by Maxwell has kept him out of action; however he has made a decent recovery and is looking to put in a good performance for the Yankees.
"We're a little over three months out and I feel pretty much 100 percent," Maxwell commented over his fitness. "I've already been hitting and throwing, doing everything. I feel good."
The Yankees are looking to build their outfield strength by adding players like Maxwell to the line-up. Also with Spring Training starting soon, the team will be looking to put in a good performance against some of the top tier teams in the League. The Yankees
have a long successful history of making the right moves during the offseason when trading and acquiring players.
Maxwell had a decent performance for the Nationals with three home-runs, 12 RBIs and scoring at an average of .144 in 2010. He also managed to hit 21 RBIs at an average of .287 for Triple-A Syracuse. The Yankees will be looking to Maxwell to put in a good
performance during Spring Training and of course the grueling 2011 regular season that follows.
The Yankees understand the importance of getting the right players early as Spring Training will allow the team an opportunity to get all the players on the same page as they face some of the top teams in league. Also, many younger players get the opportunity
of gaining some much needed game time before the start of the regular season.
