New York Yankees update: Birthday Boy, Mark Teixeira remains hitless in last four games
It is not always easy going up against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park but for Mark Teixeira that hardly presents a problem. The player can go toe to toe against any opposing pitcher but his recent outing has proved that notion to be weak. The infielder
has been four games without a hit. With 15 At-Bats, the star stands at 0.
The Yanks may have seen their first baseman at a low dip in April but the situation has been similar to the years the player puts out with the bat. So far, the club is not willing to fall for a late April fool’s joke.
"He's just missing balls a little bit, that's all," manager Joe Girardi said. "I thought he put some pretty good swings on. [Dustin] Pedroia made a great play on him yesterday - he seems to be all over the place. It seems like there are two of [Pedroia]
out there. But he's just missing balls a little bit. And you're seeing good pitching, there's no doubt about it."
So far, Teixeira has 33 At – Bats, five walks and a batting average of .182. Furthermore, his six hits in nine games have brought in six runs, four home runs and 10 RBIs. Unfortunately, 10 of his dismissals in the season have come off strikeouts. With an
early burst of energy before his sudden dip in contribution, there is one thing positive to take from the situation.
"The one thing, if it does happen, he's shown he's going to come out of it and be productive," Girardi said.
With an upcoming series against the Baltimore Orioles and then the Texas Rangers at home, Teixeira could be looking for a gushing rush of adrenaline to get his form back on the run. The first baseman has the backing of most his teammates and the general
understanding is that this is nothing but a temporary setback. With Monday off, the player can look to celebrate his 31st birthday.
At the end of the day, that may be the necessary boost he needs to get his head back in the game.
