New York Yankees wait as Texas Rangers offer arbitration to C.J. Wilson – MLB News
The American League Eastern franchise, New York Yankees will still have to wait, if they want to hire the starting pitcher C.J. Wilson, as the runners-up of the World Series, Texas Rangers has offered the left-handed pitcher an arbitration offer on Wednesday.
The Bronx Bombers, who were seen lack of pitching depth throughout the season, has taken into line Wilson and the Philadelphia Phillies’ Roy Oswalt for contract offers, but the problems seems to increase. Oswalt showed his interest to remain with the Phillies
while Wilson now has received an arbitration offer.
Despite having a lack in pitching depth, which was led by Carsten Charles Sabathia and Bartolo Colon, the Yankees reached the American League Division Series, but lost a five-game series 3-2 by the AL Central Champions, Detroit Tigers. Yankees’ manager Joe
Girardi and general manager Brian Cashman stopped CC Sabathia by signing a five-year deal and searched for an equally strong candidate to back him in the 2012 season. The Yankees however were reluctant to pay as high as Roy Oswalt and C.J. Wilson. It was another
issue, which set both the players to see the type of offers back in their respective clubs, according to an expert.
Wilson, a Type-A agent, will have to accept or decline this offer until December 7. In case a Type-A free agent declines the offer, it will provide the Rangers two drafts picks in the 2012 drafts as compensation. It has been reported that the left-handed
pitcher is expected to decline the offer because it will open high salaries for him in the open market, especially from the Yankees.
The Rangers on the other hand not only sent the ball into the arbitration court but also they cemented their two additional drafts picks in 2012. The American League Western club will enjoy picks in case free agent signs with any other club in Major League
Baseball. The club was to offer arbitration until 11 p.m. on Wednesday, which they did and now the club will be eligible for compensation.
The Rangers did not offer arbitration to Darren Oliver, who now will be considered a Type-B player. Besides Darren, the Rangers did not present an arbitration offer to left-hander Adrian Gonzalez, catcher Matt Treanor, outfielder Endy Chavez and right handed-pitcher
Brandon Webb.
