New York Yankees wins series with victory over Texas Rangers 6-5 – MLB Update
The American League eastern franchise New York Yankees won the three game series overpowering the league rival Texas Rangers in a close 6-5 confrontation on Sunday, April 17 at Yankee Stadium in New York.
The Rangers’ Adrian Beltre used his power-swing to go deep left-field and gave a two-run early blow to the Yankees in the top of the first inning. However, the Yankees top prospect Robinson Cano countered launching his fourth homer of the season in the second
inning and trimmed the lead to 2-1. In the top of the fourth, Beltre again came into action and drove in a single widening the lead to 3-1.
It was the time when the Yankees manager Joe Girardi must have missed injured Alex Rodriguez, but soon the game took dramatic change with Russell Martin’s two-run tying home run in fifth inning. It seemed as if the Beltre was not ready to let the game so
easily, because he again sent the opposition under pressure adding a run in the sixth inning.
Chasing one-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth, Curtis Granderson did what the Yankees required urgently to come-back in the outing. Curtis faced Ogando and launched a leading homer to right-field. The game kept on stumbling either side as the Rangers
retaliated strongly when Michael Young hit a grounder to deep-right and tied the outing five at all. It followed with Ogando’s scoreless inning that sent a chill to the Yankees camp.
It must have caused some trouble to Girardi, but Eric Chavez, who was substituting for Rodriguez, touched a single in eighth. The hit made Girardi so pleased that he could not restrict him from praising the player saying, "Couldn't get him out. He's the
type of player that can carry a club."
The happiness of Chavez, who joined the club in January, was evident when he came back to camp after tossing the leading run. He also expressed it with the reporters. "When I made the decision to come here, I knew what it was going to be. Obviously, Alex
is going to play a ton of games and when I get in there I've just got to be ready to play," said Chavez, "I'm going to keep the same approach the whole year."
Chavez hit off the Rangers’ Arthur Rhodes, who relieved Ogando and allowed two hits and two walks in his small single innings spell. Ogando pitched just over six innings, allowed five runs, six hits and one walk while managed just one strike-out. All three
Yankees homers came off the pitches of Ogando.
The same was the case with the Yankees starter Carsten Charles Sabathia, who allowed four runs, eight hits and two walks, however he managed six strike-outs in just over six innings. Reliever Rafael Soriano made his first save and Mariano Rivera earned seventh
save in his nine outings.
