New York continue to impress with 4-1 win against the Montreal Canadiens
Goalkeeper Dwayne Roloson stopped 38 shots, while four different players scored for the Islanders to give New York their third straight win on Sunday night. Despite being one place off the bottom of the standings, the Islanders proved they were no pushovers.
The Montreal Canadiens made a strong start to the match as expected. They made a number of great goal attempts but unfortunately couldn’t find the back of the net. However the New York Islanders were buoyed by their supporters and slowly gre in confidence
to get themselves back into the game. They took the lead in the 12th minute, when Blake Comeau scored from a well placed flick shot.
Both teams had more scoring chances in the opening period, but they failed to score during the final eight minutes of play. The period ended with the Canadiens making eight goal attempts, while the New York Islanders made nine goal attempts. The Islanders
went into the break leading 1-0.
Montreal came out strongly in the second period and piled a lot of pressure on the Islanders. However New York defended solidly, and created a number of chances themselves. Both sides continued to attack, but once again the Canadiens just couldn’t find the
back of the net.
The home team on the other hand couldn’t manage anything extraordinary either, as they were pinned inside their own half for quite a while. However the home team scored in the 18th minute to double their lead after a fast break. The goal was scored by Michael
Grabner from a well placed shot.
The period ended with the New York Islanders leading 2-0. The home team made seven goal attempts compared to the Canadiens 16 goal attempts.
The Islanders scored as early as the third minute of the final period to effectively seal the game. PA Parenteau scored the goal from a well placed flick shot. New York sealed the match with another goal through James Wisniewski’s powerful strike.
The away side did however manage a consolation goal in the eighth minute, through Tomas Plekanec’s quick shot. The match ended with the New York Islanders winning 4-1, with Dwayne Roloson named the star selection as he made 38 saves in the match.
