About 7 hours wheels up to wheels down.  On the ground at JFK assume 1 hour of waiting in line to take off.  Every carrier has planes lined up for take off to Europe, especially at 6-9pm.  Once your flight enters European airspace expect some vectoring before turning onto "final" at Roma.

I assume you mean Rome, Italy, not Rome, New York.
