New Zealand A ended their unofficial ODI series against the visiting India A team on a level 1-1, after claiming a 65-run win over their visitors in the 3rd and final match of the series, played at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bert-Sutcliffe-c47851 Oval in Lincoln on September
23.
New Zealand A won the toss and elected to bat first – a decision which was justified by half-tons from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Derek-de-Boorder-c1359, despite the efforts of India A’s Vinay Kumar (10-1-36-3) and Shami Ahmed (10-1-39-2).
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Herrick-Worker-c59349 contributed a meagre 1 run, and was trapped lbw by Vinay Kumar in the 7th over. However, fellow opener Tom Latham managed to apply himself at the crease long enough for a 30-run contribution, and a 41-run stand with Flynn
(54).
Latham was bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shami-Ahmed-c2496, but his successor Broom (51) kept the innings moving forward, setting up a 64-run partnership with Flynn.
Flynn was dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dean-Brownlie-c1349 who followed him to the crease was unable to proceed beyond a contribution of 7 runs. However, de Boorder (51) proved an effective partner for Broom and their 57-run stand
for the 5th wicket got the team total up to 200 by the 46th over, after which Broom was sent packing by Vinay Kumar.
The remainder of the batting order, however, was fairly ineffective. Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Vinay-Kumar-c2237 respectively. Following de Boorder’s departure via run out in the final over,
with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 A posted a final total of 228.
Following their solid batting performance, the team launched an intense bowling attack led by Wagner (9.1-2-36-4), with Nethula (10-1-46-3) and Boult (8-1-30-2) chipping in with supporting performances.
A handful of India A’s batsmen managed to get starts, but were unable to convert them into substantial scores. Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mandeep-Singh-c74122 was cut off at 14. Unmukt Chand (46),
Menaria (30), and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jalaj-Saxena-c1632 (26) managed respectable performances, but none of the remaining batsmen was able to reach double-digit scores.
The team only managed two notable partnerships – the opening stand of 46 runs between Mukund and Chand, and a 47-run 6th-wicket stand between Menaria and Saxena. However, these few contributions were not enough to propel the team to victory, and
India A eventually found themselves cut off at 163, all out, granting the New Zealand A a 65-run victory.
With the unofficial ODI series having ended on a 1-1 draw, the teams will now move on to the 2-match unofficial Test series, scheduled to be played from September 26 to October 6.
