New Zealand Badminton Open: Simon Santoso outplays Arief Ramadhan in Men’s Singles second round
Indonesia’s elite player Simon Santoso stayed on track in Men’s Singles second round where he outplayed his lower ranked compatriot Arief Ramadhan at the SKYCITY New Zealand Badminton Open 2013 on Thursday, April 11, in Auckland.
The experienced Simon, who has been placed at the top in Men’s Singles main draw of the championship, displayed his lofty craft and he easily tamed his un-seeded country-mate by consuming just 33 minutes.
Simon was on a different level as he was perfect in all departments of the game. He did not lose his focus at any stage in the whole battle and overpowered Arief in straight sets by putting a spectacular 21-9 and 21-14 score on the board.
The lower ranked Arief, on the contrary, failed to play aggressive badminton as he remained struggling in all areas of the court and eventually bowed down against his top seeded challenger without creating any strong impact on the crowd.
The amazing speed and attacking shots of Simon favoured him to take control of the pace from the initial points of first set.
The incredible variations in Simon’s strokes helped him to continue his superiority against his opponent on court.
Simon progressed with a superb speed in the starting half of the first game and he comfortably remained ahead on score board until the one-minute break.
The underdog Arief could not change things around after the one-minute break as he lost his focus in the arena. He tried to cope up with the pace of his higher ranked challenger but could not put up strong show at any stage.
The positive and attacking play of Simon helped him to claim the opening game with an inspiring margin of 21-9.
Things were not much different in the second set of this entertaining battle as Simon played in the similar aggressive fashion.
Until the end of first half, the incredible Simon remained consistent in playing with command and variations and stayed ahead on score board.
In the second half of second game, the incredible Simon continued his power play and easily secured the set by a stunning difference of 21-14.
