New Zealand Bowlers to watch out for in fourth ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747
New Zealand were overpowered by a strong performance from an energetic Bangladesh side in the recently concluded 3rd ODI at Mirpur. Batting first, the kiwi batting crumbled against a quality spin attack as they could only muster 173 runs in their allotted 50 overs. New Zealand's bowling struggled to make any impact against the Bangladeshi batsmen as well as they only managed to take three wickets to lose the match.
Keeping in mind a possible 4-0 whitewash by the Bengali tigers, Bettor.com takes a look at the current bowling resources that can rescue New Zealand from an embarrassing series defeat against Test playing minnows, Bangladesh.
Kyle Mills
In the absence of Shane Bond and Ian http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 attack. Although injuries have sidelined him, Mills has been a regular member of New Zealand’s ODI side.
Moreover, Mills has taken 173 wickets in 116 ODI’s at an impressive average of 26 with a best of 5/25. His numbers in the shorter version of the game are a clear evidence of him being successful in the 50 over game as he can remain injury free by sweating less.
The right hander from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 is a swing bowler. Usually, Mills swings it away from the right-hander at a nagging line and length. At times, he can get extra bounce by hitting the deck hard, using his height to good effect.
In the ongoing series between New Zealand and Bangladesh, Kyle Mills should have been a real star with the ball, but he has performed in bits and pieces.
In the first ODI between the two Test playing nations, the right arm bowler performed to his full potential as he took 3/44 in 9.3 overs. Furthermore, he bowled the opening spell and the death overs, which include batting power-plays as well. Mills was subjected to a blazing Shakib with the bat going at full throttle.
Furthermore, the 3rd ODI has been a disappointment as far as Mills is concerned. Although, New Zealand (173) did not manage to pile up a huge total on the board, it was still expected from their bowlers to put up a good fight. But in the end, favourable results remained aloof. To everyone’s surprise, Mills went wicket-less as he bowled 6 poor overs, conceding 38 runs. With the ace striker not delivering for the Kiwi team, Bangladesh romped to victory with seven wickets in the bank.
Against all odds, if New Zealand wants to escape from a series defeat, then Kyle Mills should fire at all cylinders to rock the Bangladeshi tigers.
Daniel Vettori
Daniel Vettori is currently the best left-arm spinner and perhaps, one of the best ever to grace the cricket pitch. As a slow left-arm orthodox bowler, he does not turn the ball a mile. However, Vettori drifts the ball and has a potent arm-ball that can easily get the batsman leg before wicket.
Statistics speak for themselves. With 325 Test victims in 100 Test matches, Vettori has proved his mettle across the globe. In addition, he is going to cross Richard Hadlee’s record of 431 wickets, if he continues to play Test cricket. In the shorter version of the game, the Kiwi skipper has blossomed even more.
In 257 ODI appearances, Vettori has taken 270 victims at an average of 31 with a best of 5/7 against Bangladesh.
Historically, Vettori has been a nemesis for Bangladesh. In his 17 matches against the host, he has taken 25 wickets at an average of 19 runs.  As expected, Vettori will torment his favourite opponents, but like his partner Kyle Mills, the left armer hasn’t been consistent at all.
The conditions in Bangladesh have suited the spinners. In the first ODI, Vettori delivered a decent spell, taking 2/29 in his quota of 10 overs, but failed to prevent a Bangladesh victory.
Furthermore, in the 3rd ODI on a spin friendly track, Vettori bowled an economical spell of 0/36 in his 10 overs, but struggled to take a single wicket. A wicket or two from Vettori could have made things more interesting.
Daniel Vettori will now be aiming to take a few Bengali wickets in the fourth ODI in Mirpur with his brilliant spell of left-arm spin bowling.
