New Zealand Coach regrets his side’s poor performance
New Zealand cricket coach, John Wright has termed the show put on by the Black Caps in the first Test in Hamilton against Pakistan as “unacceptable”.
Wright urged the Kiwi fans to be patient after the home side was crushed by the visiting Pakistan squad in the first Test of a two Test series. The visitors wrapped up the first Test on the third day after defeating the hosts by ten wickets. Never before
have New Zealand lost so badly at home.
Speaking on the matter with the press, Wright said, "It has certainly been an interesting experience... Everybody understands pretty clearly that the performance was unacceptable."
This was Wright’s first major assignment since taking charge of the coaching department of New Zealand. He replaced former New Zealand coach, Mark Greatbatch, after the disastrous tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
The fact that New Zealand failed to perform with the bat in the second innings on a pitch that was considered batsman friendly has raised quite a few concerns in the cricket administration in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754. Wright, while talking about the failure of his batsmen,
said, "It's going to take some time and we need to find batsmen that are prepared to be very patient and really want to stay at the crease." He further said, "The talent's there, but we've got a bit of teaching to do. New Zealand sports fans do have big expectations,
I understand that. And I can say to the public from all of us- it was totally unacceptable and we've got to do a lot better. But show us some patience. If I can do my job properly and the boys respond, we'll get there."
The Pakistan team outplayed the home side even though they didn’t have many bowling options, as their first choice bowlers, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, are out of the national squad due to spot-fixing allegations. Wright acknowledged this fact and praised
the visiting side for putting up an impressive display of skill and determination in Hamilton.
Talking about http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, he said, "They're very rich in playing talent and they've always, over the course of their history, managed to field a good team. They've got great fast-bowling stocks and they're a good team, but they're beatable."
