New Zealand Cricket 2011 - Trent Woodhill Assistant Coach Contract extended
Trent Woodhill’s efforts, as an Assistant Coach of the New Zealand team, have been rewarded with a new contract in the same role until October 2012.
Woodhill, who joined Black Caps before the Sri Lankan tri-series in August 2010, has been offering invaluable services along with Head Coach, John Wright, especially in the recently concluded International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2011.
New Zealand brought many changes in their cricketing structure, including the renovation of the selection panel and selection processes. As a result, the selection panel members – Glenn Turner and Cairns were sacked, while the coach, Wright, and interim National Selection Manager, Mark Greatbatch, were retained.
Hence, refurbishing of Woodhill’s contract is also considered the part of all these changes. All these changes were made on the suggestions of New Zealand Cricket Director, John Buchanan.
Buchanan revealed that he was happy over the reappointment of Woodhill as an assistant of Coach Wright.
"Trent has forged a strong and successful relationship with John and indeed the entire Blackcaps unit. He has been recognised as a key influence behind the team’s remarkable fielding performance at the World Cup”, said the Director of New Zealand Cricket.
Buchanan termed the decision as in the best interest of the team, citing that Woodhill possesses remarkable techniques for supporting the Kiwis.
Wright also expressed his happiness for having an opportunity of working with an assistant such as Woodhill, “I look forward to working with Trent - he is an important part of our coaching set up”.
On the other hand, the South African, Allan Donald, last week, decided to switch to coaching services for his national team. He has also been playing a crucial bowling coach role in the World Cup 2011, where New Zealand were thrashed at the hands of Sri Lanka in the semi-final stage.
However, former Australian fast bowler, Andy Bichel is likely to take over from Donald, as a bowling coach.
Woodhill is expected to start his duties with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754’ A-squad where he will train the team for the winter season games.
