New Zealand Cricket allows window for IPL

New Zealand has become the first ever cricketing country to create a specific window for the Indian Premier League. The New Zealand cricket board has got into an agreement with the New Zealand cricketers’ association and the first class domestic sides in New Zealand about the creation of this window, apart from the establishment of a players' retirement fund.

According to their cricket board CEO, Justin Vaughan, this was a ground-breaking deal that would ensure that the players and the other stakeholders get a much better deal than before. The contract has been signed for an eight-year term, which will ensure that the $65 million will be used for the grassroots and $25 million for NZC reserves.

The deal was also welcomed by the executive of the players association, Heath http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mills-c76321, who said that this new contract will ensure that the players will come together with the cricket board and near-fractious situations like the one last year will not repeat. In 2009, the New Zealand cricket board had got into an issue with the top players over their non-participation in the IPL.

According to this new agreement, the revenue forecast will be  around $360 million, out of which $152 million will be invested back into cricket. This will also mean that if the New Zealand Cricket can ensure that they make more than the planned amount of $360 million, it will be allowed to be used for the professional game.

It is also said that for the first $60 million that gets generated over the forecast will be divided in the ratio of 65:35 for the cricketers’ pool, and a 50:50 after that.

One of the problems that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 Cricket has faced over the previous years is the lack of financial incentives in the sport as compared to not only the other countries, but also in comparison to the other sports in the country. The Indian Premier League was a way in which the New Zealand cricketers could earn much more in a span of a month than they had ever done in their entire season, but for most of the three seasons of the tournament, it has clashed with the international schedule that the New Zealand side has been involved with.

This has almost meant that some of the top Kiwi cricketers have had to rethink their strategy and commitment to New Zealand cricket, with some like Brendon McCullum and Daniel Vettori even going up to the extent of rethinking whether they want to sign a contract with NZC.
