New Zealand Cricket chief Justin Vaughan confirmed on Tuesday that the Board has contacted former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 coach John Buchanan for their first director of cricket role.
Vaughan said that the Australian is a front-runner to take over the role. He however hinted that there are a few other candidates in the running and the Board will take the final decision on Friday.
“I can certainly confirm we've met with John,” said Vaughan while talking to a leading newspaper. “He's got great credentials for the role, but we've spoken to a few candidates and ultimately there will be a recommendation made to
the board on Friday.”

While Buchanan is said to have great credentials for the post among the names in the running to be New Zealand Cricket’s first director of cricket, there are some other well-known names from the cricketing world competing for the role.

The NZC director would be responsible for overseeing the high-performance programme of New Zealand Cricket. He will also play a key role in the appointment of a new captain of the national side as well as in choosing the selection
panel.
Daniel Vettori stepped down as the New Zealand captain after the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2011 while the contracts of the current selectors are due to expire in April 2011.
