New Zealand Cricket has decided to relocate its headquarters to Lincoln after receiving financial assistance from the International Cricket Council.
According to details, the ICC has provided NZC US $1 million as donation to help NZC re-establish its facilities.
Currently, NZC is based in Christchurch which was recently hit by a devastating earthquake that destroyed most parts of the city. Although the main building of New Zealand’s cricketing body is intact but it is located in the red zone due to which it is not
advisable to reopen the location.
Speaking on the prospects of working in Christchurch, NZC chief executive Justin Vaughan said, “We have been told that we won't be getting back in there any time soon, and psychologically returning to high-rise office space is not acceptable.”
According to reports, NZC staff does not want to go back to work in a high-rise building as they worked on the sixth floor.
NZC chief executive added that the organisation is looking to relocate to Lincoln. The Kiwis are looking at the facilities of the high performance centre at the Lincoln University and will decide soon if the headquarters of NZC can be moved there.
It has been learnt that some members of the coaching staff are already using the Lincoln facility which was not designed to hold a lot of people.
Speaking on the matter Vaughn said, “Obviously that is not ideal; people are crammed in and the facility is not designed for this. It's fine at the moment in the short-term but we will need dedicated office space. The indoor centre needs renovation, if not
an overhaul, and a lot of work is required there.”
Vaughan revealed that the options of relocating to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 were also considered before finally picking Lincoln to be the new base of operations.
The NZC chief executive praised the ICC for their generous donation and admitted that it made him feel very humbled to find out that this was the first time in the history that the ICC had given a donation to a member country to rebuild its facilities after
a natural disaster.
On the other hand, Vaughan announced that he would soon hold a meeting with the Kiwis head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
