"Former captains will be invited to attend the meeting which is intended to be an annual event designed to provide quality input from both the former captains and the players who were part of their era in cricket," the NZC statement read, according to ESPNcricinfo.

Following Taylor’s public statements, expressing disappointment and his desire to take a break from cricket, NZC officially apologized, through Chairman Chris Moller, stating that the board is keen on learning from the incident and aims to move ahead positively.
The captains’ meet, which according to the NZC is intended to be an annual event, is the board’s first step (after the public apology) towards improving relations with players.
"Creating a vehicle for former captains and players to directly communicate their ideas and observations to NZC is complimented by the current constitutional review process that the board has committed to in the early part of next year," assered the statement from the board.
